In our experience, PayPal gives merchants too little control over their own funds. Money can be held or frozen, account decisions may be difficult to appeal, and the appeal process is closed and unclear from the outside. When a payment provider controls both the money and the practical appeal channel, the seller is left in a weak position.
Fees, currency conversion losses, dispute costs, and chargeback-related risks are also a serious problem. For international payments, the final cost may be much higher than it looks at first, especially when several intermediaries, conversions, or reversals are involved.
We also consider PayPal's seller protection rules unclear and unreliable for our type of digital membership service. The interface feels outdated, support quality is inconsistent, and we have experienced rude operators closing chat discussions in one click, leaving no normal way to continue the same conversation.
